The Friends of the Library are very excited to announce our successful bid for a Summer of Innovation Grant from NASA to fund our FIRST LEGO League after-school club. FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program designed for kids ages 9-16 yrs old to get them excited about science and technology. Do you have a child with a budding interest in science?
FIRST participants are much more likely to
- Attend college
- Major and pursue careersĀ in science or engineering
- Volunteer in their communities
- Secure internships
- Mentor students
- Become outstanding citizens
The Club will meet twice a week to learn about the FIRST LEGO League challenge, build a robot, perfect the missions, have lots of FUN, work on team building and train for a tournament. This is a great opportunity, as the grant will fund all of the equipment and registration fees!
Interested parents, coaches, mentors, and children should email the Director at cchronopoulos@pelhamweb.com asap. Thank you!
The Library is also looking for a committed coach to lead this program. The commitment would be approximately 5 hours a week for 8-10 weeks. We are offering a stipend. Please email the Director for more information.
